"Hurts so good" is a common phrase we hear during our sessions. This means you may experience what feels like a relieving pain. You should not feel only pain during a deep tissue massage, if you experience this your therapist should adjust the pressure being used. Remember to always be vocal with your therapist, we appreciate the feedback.
This depends on the client. Some of our clients may need a deep tissue session to manage their chronic pain as often as every week while others may only need this type of massage therapy when they experience an acute pain. Talk with your therapist for the best treatment plan for you.
You should feel relief from acute and chronic pain. It is common to experience muscle soreness for up two 48 hours after a deep tissue massage but not all clients experience this. The more sessions you receive the less likely you are to have this side effect.
It is recommended to drink plenty of water after your session, this helps with muscle soreness as well as flushing the body of released toxins. Another great way to combat post deep tissue soreness is to take an epsom salt bath. Try to avoid any heavy lifting or strenuous activity after your deep tissue massage.
Deep tissue massage is generally safe but if you are on blood thinners you may wants to consider a different treatment option as deep tissue may cause bruising. With this deep tissue technique consistent firm-heavy pressure is held on problem causing trigger points or adhesions without movement, his will calm the discomfort or pain caused by active trigger points and adhesions.
This technique is exactly what it sounds. Using slow deep strokes that follow the direction of muscle fibers promotes elasticity and pliability in hypertonic (tight) muscles.
When including passive movement, movement of body without voluntary effort by the client, simultaneously with muscle stripping this magnifies effectiveness of the stripping technique.
The most intense deep tissue technique, and most effective way to increase muscle pliability is to add active engagement, voluntary movement by the client, along with muscle stripping.
